My name’s Judah Swagerty.
I grew up in the foothills of East Tennessee, raised by a single mom who was an entrepreneur long before that word was popular.
She sold t-shirts at flea markets, church events, and on street corners — until one day, she opened her own storefront.
That little shop changed everything for us.
It’s where I learned the value of hard work, the beauty of service, and the quiet joy of watching people walk away smiling because of something you created.
My grandmother was a pastor, and my mom was a businesswoman — so faith and entrepreneurship have always been in my blood.
They taught me that success means nothing without service, and that legacy isn’t built overnight — it’s built over a lifetime of obedience.

I met my wife, Evelyse, in college in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1997. She’s originally from the Cape Verde Islands, and moved to Taunton, Ma. when she was eight years old.
From New Hampshire we relocated back to Northeast Tennessee for 16 years and after we got married, we made our way back north.
We had our first three children in Tennessee, then moved to Taunton in 2013 and gave birth to our fourth child.
Eventually, we settled in New Bedford, where we lived for four long years and gave birth to our fifth child, right here at St. Luke's Hospital.
During that season, I worked in a group home in Fall River, and later a Therapeutic Mentor, serving youth and families across the Southcoast...
...from Brockton and Bridgewater down to New Bedford and all the small towns in between.
Family Fun Fridays are always a blast with the children. This was a Christmas winter night in our first New Bedford home before moving to Tennessee for 3 years. Fun times. (Winter 2018)
Those jobs were more than work — it was ministry. It’s where I heard the stories of this region firsthand.
Stories of pain.
Stories of struggle.
But most importantly — stories of hope.
These young people dreamed of better futures, stronger families, and safer communities.
They carried more courage than most adults I’d ever met. It was in those conversations — in the living rooms and classrooms of the Southcoast — that my heart began to beat for this area.
At the time, I didn’t know what God was doing.
I wasn’t a publisher then.
I wasn’t a speaker or a founder.
I was just a man trying to make a difference one life at a time.
But looking back, I realize something: it was their stories that changed me.
Those stories planted the seed for what would become my calling — helping people share their message, find their purpose, and leave a legacy.
We moved back to Tennessee in 2018 to be closer to family as my mom battled health issues.
When COVID hit in 2020, everything changed.
The world shut down — my mother passed away — and community as we knew it disappeared.
But even then, God was writing a new chapter for me.
That’s when He handed me publishing — not just as a business model, but as a ministry of storytelling.
Through publishing, I began to reconnect with people again — helping authors all over the world tell their stories, build movements, and rediscover hope.
Eventually, we made our way back to New England — first to Taunton, and finally, we get to begin our home buying search in New Bedford.
And, as soon as we decided to move back to New Bedford, I knew this is where the next chapter was supposed to be written, again!
This is how New Bedford Legacy Builders was born — not in a boardroom, but in the heart of someone who’s lived both sides of the story...

But the real blessing from God is that I'm able to do what I'm called to do... and enjoy it!
I’m able to build purpose-driven businesses I believe in, serve people who share my values, and wake up every day excited to pour into something that matters.
